UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) accepts only approved Secure English Language Tests (SELTs). The requirements depend on the level of study or visa type:
1. Student Route (Higher Education)
Undergraduate:
- Overall 5.5 – 6.0 (no band less than 5.5)
Postgraduate:
- Overall 6.0 – 6.5 (some universities may ask for 7.0, especially in law, medicine,
or journalism)
2. Below Degree Level (Foundation / Pre-sessional / Diploma)
- Minimum: 4.0 overall (with no band less than 4.0)
3. UKVI for Work / Professional Registration
Skilled Worker visa / healthcare roles (e.g., nurses, doctors):
- Usually 4.0 – 4.5 overall
Professional bodies (e.g., GMC, NMC, teaching, law):
- May require 7.0 or above in IELTS UKVI Academic
4. UKVI General Training (Other Visas)
For family, spouse, or settlement visas:
- A1 level (4.0) for initial applications
- A2 level (4.0) for visa extensions
- B1 level (4.0–5.0) for settlement/ILR and citizenship
