LanguageCert International ESOL is a UKVI-approved English test accepted by many UK and international universities, colleges, and professional bodies. It assesses all four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking.

1. Undergraduate Programs

  • Anglia Ruskin University: High pass overall with 33 in each of the four skills
  • University of Aberdeen: High pass in LanguageCert B2 with minimum 33 in Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and 38 in Writing (Note: Not accepted for entry from September 2025 onwards)
  • London South Bank University: Minimum score of 33 in each skill area for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs
  • Liverpool John Moores University: B2 pass with no component below 33/50
  • University of Surrey:
  • IELTS 5.5/5.0 equivalent: LanguageCert B2 overall pass with minimum 30 in all skills
  • IELTS 6.0/5.5 equivalent: LanguageCert B2 pass with 33 in all skills
  • Glasgow Caledonian University: Communicator level pass (33-37 marks) equals IELTS 6.0 (5.5), while Communicator level high pass (38-50 marks) equals IELTS 6.5 (6.0)

2. Postgraduate Programs

  • Anglia Ruskin University: High pass overall with 38 in each of the four skills
  • University of Aberdeen: Same requirements as undergraduate programs
  • University of Surrey:
  • IELTS 6.5/6.0 equivalent: LanguageCert B2 high pass with 36 in all skills
  • IELTS 7.0/6.5 equivalent: B2 Communicator pass in all four elements with a score of at least 33 in each
  • University of Worcester: Minimum score of 39 out of 50
  • University of the Highlands and Islands: B2 Communicator high pass with 105-110 marks

3. Some competitive programs may require C1 High Pass (IELTS 7.5 equivalent)

  • Accepted from B1 Achiever (CEFR Level B1)
  • Equivalent to IELTS 4.5 – 5.5

4. UKVI Visas (LanguageCert SELT UKVI)

  • Student visa (degree level and above): B2 (Communicator)
  • Below degree level (foundation, diploma): B1 (Achiever)
  • Work & settlement visas: A1, A2, or B1 depending on visa type (e.g., spouse/partner,
    ILR, citizenship)

  • Imperial College London: High pass required in all sections of LanguageCert B2
  • University of York: Minimum score of 33 in each module
  • University of Lincoln: Minimum score of 33 in all components
  • Edinburgh Napier University: Overall score of 39 or above, with 39 or above in all skills
  • City, University of London: Band A (Speaking 25 and LRW pass), Band B (Speaking 33 and LRW pass), and Band C (Speaking 38 and LRW high pass)

Validity

LanguageCert results are valid for 2 years (same as IELTS, PTE, TOEFL).
